JOHOR BARU: Barisan Nasional (BN) has claimed that it is leading in 44 of the 56 seats in the Johor state election.
Its Pontian member of Parliament Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said the party was leading in Benut, Perling, Layang-Layang, Puteri Wangsa, and Gambir, among others.
"Unofficially, we are leading in 44 seats," he said at the BN command centre, here.
BN only needs 29 seats to secure a simple majority to form the next state government.
Earlier, Ahmad, who is also Umno secretary-general, claimed that BN made a clean sweep in all military camps.
