KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional (BN) today announced popular preacher Datuk Mohd Kazim Elias as one of its candidates in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its chairman, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, said Kazim, fondly known as "Ustaz Kazim", would stand in the Larut parliamentary constituency.
Kazim is expected to take on caretaker Home Minister Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin, who won the seat in 2018.
Zahid also announced Sheikh Mohmed Puzi Sheikh Ali as BN's candidate for Pekan, the seat previously held by jailed former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Najib's eldest son, Datuk Nizar Mohd Najib, was previously speculated to be one of those nominated for the seat.
