KUALA LUMPUR: Bersih has called on authorities to investigate Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Abdul Hadi Awang for wearing a vest bearing the party logo while voting today.
A Twitter user posted a picture of Hadi casting his ballot at a polling station wearing a green vest bearing the Pas logo.
"This is clearly an election offence, to wear any apparel or clothing with a party symbol or logo into a polling centre," FMT quoted Bersih chairman Thomas Fann as saying.
He urged the Election Commission (EC) and police to investigate the matter and take action.
Fann said that under Section 26(1)(g) of the Election Offences Act 1954, voters are not allowed to wear, hold or carry any form of clothing or item which shows the name of a candidate, emblem or symbol of any political party while voting or within 50 metres of a polling station.
Any person who contravenes the section may be punished with imprisonment for up to one year, a fine of not more than RM5,000, or both, upon conviction.
