GE15: Noh Omar resigns as Selangor Umno chief, urges Zahid to step down [NSTTV]

KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar has resigned from the post effective immediately, citing mutual loss of trust.

He said party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi no longer trust him, and vice versa.

"I was appointed to the post by the party president and in the recent general election, the president no longer trusted me.

"As state chairman, I was not called to discuss on the matter and was dropped (from the candidate list).

"I was not disheartened by it, but the way it was done as if the president did not appreciate what I did for Umno Selangor all these while.

"Several figures were brought in (to contest in Selangor), including Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Khairy Jamaluddin, although they lost (at their respective seats; Kuala Selangor and Sungai Buloh).

"The president has lost his trust in me, and I have lost my trust in him," he told reporters after attending Umno's political bureau meeting.

He also said that if Zahid has a big heart, he should step down, just like former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak after the 14th General Election.

"Furthermore, he won (the Bagan Datuk seat) with a small majority."

Noh, however, said that he is still an Umno supreme council member and will attend the meeting as usual.

Asked about Zahid's reaction when he asked the former to step down, Noh replied; "It is up to him."

Calls are mounting for Zahid vacate the party presidency following Barisan Nasional's dismal performance at yesterday's general election.
