KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that negotiations with between PH and Barisan Nasional (BN) to form a coalition federal government took place at the Seri Pacific Hotel here this morning.
Anwar, who won the Tambun seat in the 15th General Election (GE15), said the talks were focused on forming an inclusive government and improving the economy.
"We are very pleased with the outcome. The meeting focused more on the governance and formation of a stable and inclusive government," he told a press conference at the Seri Pacific Hotel here today.
Earlier, PH and BN leaders had gathered at the hotel next to the Umno headquarters to discuss the formation of a unity government. This as no single coalition could secure a simple majority to form a federal government.
Among those spotted attending the meeting were BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PKR secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Umno secretary-general Datuk Ahmad Maslan and Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.
Anwar said he was optimistic that PH could form the federal government under his leadership.
"We (also) discussed the formation of a coalition government under my leadership," he told.
He, however, said BN would need more time for discussion among its members for the establishment of the new government.
Anwar, however, remained coy when asked about the majority number garnered by the coalition to form it.
