KUALA LUMPUR: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi calls on party leaders and members to stop bringing up the party's past rivalry with DAP.
This came after Umno Youth demanded that DAP apologise for its past statements and allegations about the party.
"Let us stop bringing up the past and not raise the matter again.
"They (DAP) expressed that when we were negotiating to form the unity government.
"And they have agreed on the matter 100 per cent.
"So let us leave the past behind," he told reporters after visiting Laman Media during the Umno General Assembly today.
In a speech during the Umno Youth delegates' conference earlier today, wing chief Muhamad Akmal Saleh said DAP should apologise if it wanted to "soften" the hearts of Umno members, especially as the state elections near.
He said DAP should take back the insults hurled at Umno if it was honest and sincere in forming a friendship with Barisan Nasional.
Zahid said the Umno grassroots were becoming more accepting of the political cooperation between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan.
"But we should avoid giving into sentiments played up by our political opponents who are not happy with the existence and stability of the federal administration.
"The fact is, Umno's and PH's compatibility is growing day by day."
