KUALA LUMPUR: Muar member of parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said Malaysia has missed a golden opportunity to generate an economic 'lottery' for holding only one Coldplay concert in November.
In a Facebook post, the Malaysian United Democratic Alliance (Muda) president also calculated the economic surplus to be enjoyed by Singapore after organiser an additional show today, making it a six-day show featuring the famous British band.
With an average of RM600 ticket price, he said the Singapore organiser could raked in RM30 million a day.
He said if 1,000 Malaysians, who missed out on tickets for the concert here, decided to see it in Singapore, a roundtrip between Malaysia and Singapore by flight which costs RM350, airline companies could stand to make RM350,000.
He said that travellers would also spend on food and drinks, and with an average of RM500, he said up to RM3 million would be up for grabs.
"This is a huge sum of money that can be generated.
"While we're over here arguing over Malaysia hosting concerts, countries out there are grabbing golden chances to generate economic surplus.
"We used to have 40 to 50 concerts a year.
"Now? More obstacles and complaints. Malaysia cannot continue to miss out on this opportunity," he said today.
Protests from political groups are among the reasons why the band will be having only a single show for the Malaysians here.
Coldplay: Music of the Spheres World Tour's will take place at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium at 8.30pm on Nov 22 and marks the band's debut performance here.
