JOHOR BAHRU: Pulai parliamentary independent candidate remains resolute in ensuring that the voice of a non-governmental organisation is heard, despite being aware of the likelihood of being successful.
Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi, 47, remains undeterred as he gears up for another electoral contest, despite suffering defeat in previous elections.
This time he is eyeing the opportunity to capture the Pulai parliamentary seat in the upcoming Sept 9 polls.
Samsudin, who is the Kuala Lumpur Consumer Safety Association chairman, said his determination to contest was to have an opportunity for the NGO's voice to be heard, even though his chances of winning were slim.
"I previously contested in the 15th General Election (GE15) in Putrajaya and I am not discouraged from contesting again, even though the possibility of losing my deposit is high.
"I have noticed that there is constant political manoeuvring instead of the people's welfare taking centre-stage," he said at the Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim nomination centre here today.
He said there was an urgent need for the third bloc in parliament to genuinely look into the people's issues.
"Currently politicians seem to set their focus to grab seats in their thirst for power...it seems to supersede the actual purpose of being the people's representative," he added.
Samsudin, who is using the key emblem as his symbol, will face Pakatan Harapan's Suhaizan Kaiat, and Perikatan Nasional's Zulkifli Jaafar in the by-election.
He said while every candidate has his unique strength, his candidacy is driven by the desire to address issues concerning civil servants, especially matters of salary, unlicensed moneylenders (Ah Longs), cost of living and overall matters that burden the day-to-day lives of the rakyat.
