KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth will 'go across the country' to rally support so that charges against former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak in the 1MDB-International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) case be reviewed.
Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh said the youth wing will then submit a memorandum to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his advice on the matter.
"We will take more aggressive action moving forward. We will go across the country to collect (signatures for the memorandum) asking for the case to be reviewed.
"If the internal memo is authentic, then we believe that Najib is a victim of selective prosecution," he told online news portal FMT after chairing an Umno Youth leadership meeting at Menara Dato' Onn here today.
Akmal said the action was taken following the alleged leaked internal memo advising the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) drop the 1MDB-IPIC case involving Najib.
Although police reports had been lodged on the leaked memo, the AGC had yet to verify if the document was authentic, he said.
Last month, it was reported that Umno Youth had called on the Attorney General Tan Sri Idrus Harun to investigate the legitimacy of the contents of a document that is claimed to be an 'Internal Memo' of the Attorney General's Chambers regarding Najib.
This was following the revelation of a document that went viral, which claimed the link between the International Petroleum Investment Co (IPIC) prosecution team and the former prime minister.
"The content of the viral document is in the form of a recommendation from the IPIC prosecution team who unanimously took the position that the six charges involved do not meet the minimum requirements for a charge of breach of trust (CBT) to obtain a prima facie case," Akmal was reported as saying.
The AGC has since said it was probing the leak of the document but has not confirmed its authenticity.
