KUCHING: The Sarawak government is considering a redelineation exercise on its electoral boundaries this year, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
He said the government will give their views on the matter in the near future where new constituencies would be created by the Election Commission (EC).
"The exact number of seats to be added has not been determined, as the decision lies with the EC," the Borneo Post reported him saying at a press conference held after he presided over a Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) annual general meeting today.
"However, we are proposing constituencies with a mixed demographic, ensuring representation from all races.
He added that it is also essential to maintain a balanced representation between urban and rural areas.
