KUALA LUMPUR: Politicians from both sides of the divide have paid tribute to one of PKR's founding members, Syed Husin Ali who died today, describing him as a reformist.
The party's secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said Syed Husin was a very dedicated member who always attended party meetings.
"He was very disciplined, regardless of whether he agreed or disagreed with whatever was decided by the party, he would abide by the party's decision.
"Syed Husin will continue to be remembered as a friend, teacher and icon in the long struggle for justice"
Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari meanwhile said Syed Husin's passing was a loss for PKR.
He said the 87-year-old was loyal to the "Reformasi" agenda.
Subang member of Parliament Wong Chen said Syed Husin was the epitome of a true left-wing reformist.
"He was always brave, kind and thoughtful," he said.
Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said Syed Husin's writings have inspired many Malaysians throughout the years.
Bersatu Youth chief Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal meanwhile described Syed Husin as a "gem".
"Although he is known as one of the early founders of PKR, to me, his stature and contributions as a scholar of social studies, history, and leftist politics make him one of the gems of the nation," he said.
Syed Husin passed away earlier this morning. He had been hospitalised since June 18. He leaves behind three children.
