KUANTAN: Pahang PKR chairman Fuziah Salleh, a former three-term Kuantan Member of Parliament, has been appointed as the state's Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman, effective Aug 26.
Fuziah, who is also Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister, succeeds Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the Selangor Menteri Besar, who served in the role from 2022.
In a statement today, Fuziah expressed Pahang PH's appreciation for Amirudin's efforts and commitment, which led to the historic formation of a PH-Barisan Nasional (BN) unity government in Pahang.
"I chaired the first Pahang PH meeting on Monday (Aug 26), where it was agreed that we fully support the mutual understanding that has been signed and will continue to strengthen the unity government in Pahang in line with the consensus on power-sharing.
"The current Pahang government was formed through the contribution of seats won by PH during the last 15th General Election. The meeting views that PH should be given due recognition and an active role, in accordance with the memorandum of understanding (MoU) that established the Pahang unity government.
"We concluded that more PH supporters must be involved in the grassroots structure of the unity government in Pahang to enhance cooperation, especially in preparation for the 16th General Election," she said.
Last year, Pahang PH and BN signed an MoU to enhance the state's political stability and facilitate the administration of the state government.
Meanwhile, Fuziah said that all those present at the meeting pledged their utmost support to the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, and will defend the Malay Rulers institution, particularly the Sultan of Pahang, in light of recent comments by Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who was alleged to have questioned the authority of Al-Sultan Abdullah during his tenure as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
