NST Leader: Lop-sided struggle

It is a supreme irony that the state of Israel, forged out of the horrors of World War 2 and the holocaust, has become synonymous with the evil Nazis that, as a policy, had murdered Jews by the millions.

In almost every day of every week of every year since 1948, Israel, in its brazen grab of Palestinian land, has victimised, persecuted, injured and murdered natives with impunity to justify its occupation.

It stinks like Germany in the 1930s leading up to WW2, when Nazi youths hounded ordinary Jews out of their homes and seized their belongings and valuables.

For 75 years now, the Palestinian struggle, tragically, has not received any weapons to defend itself, but only international empathy and aid, and a hopeless United Nations condemnation of Israel.

Another irony: Palestine can't seem to turn to their immediate neighbours for help, or even sympathy. Especially now, after several key Arab players sealed mind-boggling peace deals — the dubious Abraham Accords — with Israel after decades of enmity.

How else can Palestinians defend themselves against cold-blooded killings, aided and abetted by the West, America in particular, but to adopt a David vs Goliath psyche famously known as the intifada.

The intifada is simple: resist defiantly with whatever weapons are at Palestinians' disposal — sticks, stones, rocks, knives, slingshots, antiquated firearms, guerilla warfare and, contentiously, suicide bombings.

Bizarrely, Palestinian freedom fighting has been branded as "terrorism" by Western governments and their media, which speciously frames plundering of Palestinian land as the "Israeli-Palestinian conflict", as if the pitch battle is fought on a level playing field. It is not.

The world must unwaveringly cast this crisis as the murderously illegal Israeli annexation and occupation of Palestine.

But Tel Aviv and their powerful backers have slyly spun around this truth with their go-to banal putdown — "anti-Semitism". It's all right.

The world neither subscribes to nor bothers with this doublespeak. As a random sample, the Palestinian death toll from their intifada was a crushing 5,590 between 2008 and 2020.

Sure, the Israelis suffered 251 deaths in the same period, but that minuscule number demonstrates the lopsidedness of a sledgehammer cracking an egg.

Moreover, every Palestinian retaliation, whether in self-defence or counter offence, is quickly twisted as an unprovoked attack.

Look no further than the ritual earlier this week: Israeli riot police stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem for a second consecutive night, assaulting unarmed Palestinian worshippers. It's classic Nazi tactic.

Perhaps the only time Israel won't be so emboldened to launch more dastardly raids is when their over-protective sugar daddy, the Americans, withdraw socio-political and military aid.

Don't hold your breath: administration after administration in the United States have offered token censure and criticism against the Israelis, but the Americans had routinely vetoed UN resolutions to condemn Israel.

It's time the world records the American responses to Israel's Nazi-like genocide as the definitive meaning of "lip service".
