KUALA LUMPUR: Badminton Asia (BA) are expected to confirm the new venue for the Asia Championships, scheduled on Apr 21-26, this week.
After pulling the plug on initial hosts Wuhan, due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the regional governing body have been on the lookout for a new venue.
Although nothing has been cast in stone, it is understood that Manila will be handed the rights to host it.
The Philippines also hosted the Asia Team Championships recently but China and Hong Kong were forced to withdraw due to travel restrictions imposed by the host country.
BA are still ironing out finer details as they do not want any country to be left out again.
“Yes, the Asia Championships will not take place in Wuhan. We are still trying to iron out some details with the Philippines government.
“We want to ensure that players from every (Asian) country will be able to participate.
“I believe BA will be issuing an official statement this week," said a source close to BA.
