Malaysia crush South Africa 5-0 to top group

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia cruised into the knockout stage of the Birmingham Commonwealth Games mixed team event after routing South Africa 5-0 in their final Group Four match yesterday.

The scratch mixed doubles pair of Aaron Chia-Pearly Tan opened the floodgates by thumping Elliott Jarred-Jordan Deidre 21-7, 21-8, before Ng Tze Yong doubled the lead with a 21-11, 21-8 win over Kakora Caden in the men's singles.

Goh Jin Wei sealed Malaysia's top spot in the group when she outclassed Scholtz Johanita 21-5, 21-4 in the women's singles.

In the men's doubles, Malaysia's second scratch pairing of the day, Chan Peng Soon-Tan Kian Meng scored a 21-6, 21-9 win over Jarred-Summers Robert, before Lai Pei Jing-Cheah Yee See completed the rout in the women's doubles with a 21-18, 21-13 win over Scholtz-Jordan.
