KUALA LUMPUR: Independent men's doubles Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi are slowly settling in with the coaching style of Rosman Razak.
While admitting that it may take some time to adapt fully to a new coach, the world No 8 are grateful to have Rosman taking over from Chin Eei Hui who took up a coaching role in New Zealand.
Eei Hui, a former international, coached the independent doubles players for nearly three years after her contract with BAM was not renewed in 2019.
After having gained a lot under Eei Hui, Yew Sin-Ee Yi believe that Rosman can continue to inspire them, starting with the Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships (BAMTC) in Dubai next week.
"So far the transition has been smooth. Sometimes it can take a while to adapt to a new coach because of their style and character.
"But with Rosman, it has been good so far and we hope to keep this going," said Yew Sin.
Ee Yi, echoed his partner's sentiments and noted that Rosman, a former BAM chief coach, is someone who emphasises more on skill and strategy.
In the BAMTC, Malaysia are in Group B with India, Kazakhstan and host, United Arab Emirates. Only the top two teams from the group will reach the quarter-finals, while the top four teams from the tournament will qualify on merit for the Sudirman Cup in May.
Ee Yi said: "We're always excited to come back to BAM. It's nice to know that they too appreciate us and always call us back for team events.
"Tomorrow is our first day of centralised training and it's really good because our coach (Rosman) has also been invited to join in," he said yesterday.
"We feel confident of doing well because there are other top players like Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the team.
"Hopefully we will get to top the group in Dubai to have a better quarter-finals draw."
Since the tournament's inception in 2017, Malaysia have never gone beyond the quarter-finals stage.
The other independent players in the squad are world No 4 Lee Zii Jia, two-time former world junior champion Goh Jin Wei, and mixed doubles Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing.
