Aaron-Wooi Yik pull out from French Open

KUALA LUMPUR: After securing their long-awaited maiden World Tour title at the Denmark Open last Sunday, men's pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik vowed that there is "more to come" from them.

However, Malaysian fans will have to wait a bit longer to see the world No. 3 attempt back-to-back victories as they have withdrawn from the ongoing French Open in Rennes.

Aaron-Wooi Yik were scheduled to face Indonesia's Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin in an eagerly anticipated opener today. But Wooi Yik suffered a minor thigh injury.

"Wooi Yik said he played through the pain during both the (Denmark Open) semi-finals and the final, pushing and fighting his way to the title," revealed Rexy.

"Our team's physiotherapist also stated that while Wooi Yik's thigh strain might not seem severe, if it were to worsen, two weeks might not be enough for a full recovery."

Aaron-Wooi Yik's withdrawal from this week's Super 750 tournament will not affect their world ranking points as they were first-round casualties last year.

Thanks to last week's Denmark Open breakthrough, they managed to climb one spot to third in the latest world rankings.

If all goes according to plan, Aaron-Wooi Yik will return to action at the Kumamoto Masters Japan, a ground-breaking Super 500 tournament from Nov 14-19.
