Freak injury rules Tang Jie-Ee Wei out of Arctic, Denmark Opens

KUALA LUMPUR: Korea Open mixed doubles champions Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei have been forced to withdraw from the European swing of the World Tour after the latter suffered a left hand injury during training at Academy Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara today.

Ee Wei sustained the injury after a fall while working out at the gym, which has ruled the world No. 9 pair out of the Arctic Open (Oct 8-13) and the Denmark Open (Oct 15-20).

National coaching director Rexy Mainaky said Ee Wei required 16 stitches for the gash on her left hand.
"Ee Wei needed several stitches and will not compete in the upcoming tournaments. The most important thing is that she's alright, and we expect her to recover in a few weeks," said Rexy.

"Her condition is being monitored closely by the medical team, and we will provide updates on her recovery in due course."

Tang Jie-Ee Wei have been in fine form, reaching the quarter-finals at the Paris Olympics in August, winning the Korea Open Super 500 title, and making it to the quarter-finals of the Japan Open and the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open.

Last year, the duo made it to the semi-finals of the Arctic Open and reached the last 16 of the Denmark Open.
