Hendrawan: It's time for me to move on

KUALA LUMPUR: National men's singles coach Hendrawan thanked the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) for its trust in him during his 15-year tenure.

BAM today announced that it had not renewed the Indonesian's contract which is due to expire at the end of the year. However, his last day of employment will be Oct 31.

"It's hard to believe I have been with BAM for so many years. It has been an incredible journey, and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time in Malaysia, but now it's time for me to move on."

"I thank BAM for their trust in me and wish the singles players the very best in the future. I hope to see them continue to progress and become top players," said Hendrawan in a statement.

The former world champion, who was appointed as national men's singles coach in May 2009, leaves BAM after almost 15 years.

Acting BAM president Datuk V. Subramaniam said Hendrawan's vast experience played a significant role in the progress and development of national players.

"BAM is immensely grateful to Hendrawan for his commitment and dedication to the national men's singles team," Subramaniam added.

Hendrawan is best known for guiding Lee Chong Wei back to the top of the badminton world after he received a doping ban in 2014.

Hendrawan started working with the men's singles legend in 2015, and helped Chong Wei win his third Olympic silver medal at the Rio 2016 Games.
