Kedah take the fight back to JDT's home

IN Malaysian football, no team is better than Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).

However, Kedah hope to embarrass the Super League champions at their fortress in today's Malaysia Cup quarter-final return leg at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium.

In Sunday's first leg, Kedah fought tooth-and-nail for a 0-0 draw in a bruising match against the Southern Tigers.

Kedah coach Aidil Sharin Sahak hopes striker Kipre Tchetche will be fit to lead his attack today. He did not play in the first leg due to an injury.

"Tchetche is eager to play, and I hope he will be fit to partner Kpah Sherman in attack tomorrow. We need our strikers as JDT are the best team in the country," said Aidil yesterday.

"We want to beat JDT. My players are motivated and eager to reach the semi-finals.

"Of course, it will not be an easy match. The 0-0 draw at home does not offer us an advantage, but if everyone plays to instructions, Kedah will gain a favourable result.

"JDT will always be favourites, home or away. Everyone wants them to be in the final, but we also have the ambition to go far in the Malaysia Cup."

JDT coach Benjamin Mora said: "We want to go out and win the game.

"I am not worried about the away goal ruling if they score. For now, it is 0-0, and we start the match fresh.

"We just need to score and defend well to win. If they score a goal, then we have to score twice for a good result."

Meanwhile, Melaka United hope to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1983 when they entertain Sabah in the return leg at Hang Jebat Stadium. Zainal Abidin Hassan's side hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.

Terengganu will travel to UiTM Stadium to take on Sarawak United after winning the first leg 2-1 in Gong Badak.

KL City, who won 2-0 in the first leg, play Selangor in the return match at KLFA Stadium.
