Syafiq set to join Kedah on loan

ALOR STAR: National striker Syafiq Ahmad could make a sensational return to Kedah on a season-long loan deal from Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) next season.

Syafiq started his career with Kedah before joining JDT in 2018.

Kedah hope to entice the 26-year-old following the departure of captain Baddrol Bakhtiar and defender Rizal Ghazali, who are expected to join Sabah for the new Super League season.

Kedah CEO Khamal Idris Ali today confirmed that the club were in talks with JDT to sign Syafiq on a loan deal.

"We have also spoken to Syafiq, and he wishes to play for Kedah again. If everything goes according to plan, Syafiq will play for Kedah next season," said Khamal after the Kedah FA Congress at Wisma Darul Aman here today.

The Congress was chaired by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, who is also the KFA president.

On Tuesday, JDT sports director Martin Prest confirmed that the club were in talks with several clubs, who want to sign Syafiq on a loan deal.

On Kedah's preparations for the new season, Khamal said the team are scouting for some new players.

"We have lost a few key players, so we need to beef up our squad. We hope to sign five quality players," he added.
