FORMER Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Dell Akbar Khan is ready to serve the FA of Malaysia (FAM) but first needs further clarification on his duties.
Dell, a former international, was named the head of FAM's independent body for the AFF Cup post-mortem on Friday.
He confirmed that he has received his appointment letter together with the terms of reference.
"Football is in my DNA. We will evaluate the national team's performance at the recent AFF Cup.
"I will focus on identifying the weaknesses of the team," said Dell yesterday.
Harimau Malaya were expected to reach the final, but they failed to go beyond their group after losing to Vietnam and Indonesia.
"As of now, no deadline has been set for the post-mortem. I have to discuss with FAM to work out the finer details," he added.
It is learnt that six more individuals will be appointed by FAM to make up the independent body.
A source said the independent body will also offer recommendations to improve Harimau Malaya's performance.
They will also discuss the future direction of the national team.
Dell's appointment comes 22 days after Malaysia's unexpected early exit from the AFF Cup in Singapore.
Dell, who played for Police and Selangor, had served FAM as their general-secretary (2000-05) and national team manager in the past.
Malaysia started well by recording wins over Cambodia (3-1) and Laos (4-0) in their opening AFF Cup Group B matches. However, Tan Cheng Hoe's boys failed to reach the semi-finals after losing to Vietnam (3-0) and Indonesia (4-1).
Cheng Hoe subsequently resigned from his post.
