KUALA LUMPUR: With less than two weeks left before the new season starts, Selangor coach Tan Cheng Hoe admitted that he is still not satisfied with his players' level of performance.
Selangor will face newly promoted Kelantan United in their season opening match on Feb 26 and Cheng Hoe has identified a number of areas which need improving before then.
The Red Giants lost 2-1 to Thai club Ratchaburi FC in a pre-season friendly with them in Hua Hin last week and had also lost by the same score to Penang at the Cup of Hope held at Batu Kawan Stadium earlier this month.
"We are in a race against time to gain the understanding and flow that we want," said Cheng Hoe today.
"During the friendlies, we conceded goals due to individual mistakes because the players were pushing themselves. They are not quite ready for high tempo matches and this led to the mistakes.
"I think overall, the players need to step up their performances, especially physically."
Selangor's notable signings this season include Colombian striker Ayron del Valle, Jordanian midfielder Noor Al-Rawabdeh and national players Faisal Halim, Khuzaimi Piee and V Ruventhiran.
Cheng Hoe added that they are starting to adapt to the Selangor system.
