KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor's new striker Richmond Boakye is confident he will fit right into the squad.
Boakye believes the Red Giant's playing style is similar to that used by Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.
The Ghanaian international said he is used to playing such style — which places an emphasis on possession, pressing as well as positional and attacking play — during his time with Red Star Belgrade.
"It's like Guardiola's style, moving the ball (a lot), which I'm quite used to. I'm impressed, (I believe) the team will go far."
Boakye, however, said he will need to adapt to the hot weather in Malaysia.
The former Juventus, Genoa and Sasuolo player will link up with Colombian striker Ayron Del Valle up front for Selangor.
Boakye has set his sights on beating last year's treble winners Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).
JDT defeated Selangor in the FA Cup semi-finals 4-0 recently.
"Selangor played well in the second-half but made one or two mistakes. There were some small things that allowed them to beat us.
"If we can beat a team like that (JDT), we will feel good. It is a challenge but we will take that challenge."
The 30-year-old tries his best to maintain a positive outlook and is confident he will make an impact on Selangor.
He recalled the time he scored for Elche against Real Madrid in 2013.
"I said if God comes to the stadium, then I can score. It would be nice to score against (Sergio) Ramos, (Cristiano) Ronaldo," said Boakye.
"But I was on the bench at the time because I just came back from national duty so I wasn't fit.
"We were left with about 15 minutes and were trailing 0-1 when the coach (Fran Escriba) looked at me. I warmed up, went on and I scored.
"Sometimes if you say something, (it) would come to life so speak positively and it will come."
Boakye stressed that teamwork and good attitude is essential in team sports such as football.
"Anybody who thinks they are above the team won't survive. I could score because the players were with me and I was with the players," he added.
