KUALA LUMPUR: Junior Eldstal was one of the heroes who helped the national Under-23 team clinch the Merdeka Tournament in Kuantan in 2013.
Fast forward a decade, and Eldstal is gearing up to represent the national senior team in the same tournament, scheduled to start on Oct 13.
The 32-year-old midfielder played a pivotal role in the 2013 final against Myanmar, where he scored one of the two goals.
Eldstal, now a centre-back, aims to replicate this triumph, this time with Harimau Malaya.
"Of course, I want to relive that moment. I was a midfielder back then and scored in the final in Kuantan," said Eldstal.
"It was undeniably one of the most cherished moments in my career, and I'm hoping to create some new memories a decade later."
Malaysia will kick off their Merdeka Tournament against India on Oct 13.
This marks Harimau Malaya's first international match following their commendable performances in friendly matches against world No. 80 China (1-1) and world No. 94 Syria (2-2) last month in Chengdu.
