KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor are said to be looking at several foreign coaches as a replacement for Tan Cheng Hoe, but he feels that they should have faith in his former assistant, Nidzam Jamil.
Following Cheng Hoe's departure last Wednesday, Nidzam has been named as Selangor's interim head coach for the second time in two years.
Nidzam is said to be a frontrunner, together with four foreign coaches. for the Selangor job after Cheng Hoe unexpectedly resigned to join Thai club Police Tero.
Selangor are now believed to be considering Croatia's Bojan Hodak, Japan's Keisuke Honda, former Thailand coach Alexandre Polking, former Tajikistan coach Petar Segrt and former Vietnam coach Park Hang Seo as a replacement.
But Cheng Hoe believes Nidzam, 44, will do well in guiding the Red Giants.
"I have observed him and he has potential. Nidzam will do a good job. When he was my assistant, he was helpful and it pushed us to do well last season (Selangor finished Super League runners-up).
"Nidzam will continue to get full support (from the players) and do a good job. I'm optimistic about this," said Cheng Hoe.
Although foreign names are being considered, many fans believe 33-time Malaysia Cup champions Selangor should get a local coach to manage the Red Giants.
Meanwhile, Cheng Hoe's debut with Thai League 1 side, Police Tero, ended in a 1-1 draw against Nakhon Pathom in Bangkok on Saturday.
