KUALA LUMPUR: Instead of lamenting about their missed chances in the 2-1 loss to Muangthong United on Thursday, Selangor's new coach Katsuhito Kinoshi was talking about what needs to be done next.
The Japanese, who was in his first week with Selangor, told his players that "we didn't train to hit the post, so, (next game) will be to put the ball inside the post."
Selangor hit the woodwork four times against Thailand's Muangthong in an AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) match at MBPJ Stadium.
Kinoshi, who was a former Serbia national team assistant coach, said: "In both halves, we hit the post too much and we didn't train to hit the post."
Despite the loss to Muangthong, Kinoshi remains optimistic that Selangor can still advance to the next round of the
ACL2. They are now third in Group H with seven points, behind Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (12 points) and Muangthong (eight). Cebu are bottom with just one point.
Kinoshi expressed his gratitude to the Selangor fans who cheered on the Red Giants throughout the match. "I want to apologise to the fans for the result. They supported us tirelessly for the full 90 minutes. We know it's been tough for them," he said.
Kinoshi's next test will be against Sri Pahang in a Malaysia Cup round of 16 second-leg match tomorrow. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw. And the Japanese doesn't want to see Selangor hitting the Pahang woodwork.
