KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor FC (SFC) has initiated a solidarity campaign in support of national footballer Faisal Halim following the tragic acid attack incident that occurred on Sunday.
Through a Facebook post, SFC urged the public to stand together in denouncing all forms of violence and expressed solidarity with Faisal.
"Football unites us all, not divides us. Football players strive and work hard for us. Faisal Halim, like any other athlete, has given his all for us to celebrate joy together.
"His iconic goal against South Korea in the AFC Asia Cup 2023 recently has brought the loudest cheers nationwide," said SFC in the statement.
SFC also urged supporters to pray for Faisal's recovery as he undergoes multiple surgeries to address the severe injuries sustained from the acid attack.
The club emphasised that the campaign transcends football and underscores the importance of humanity in supporting Faisal during this challenging time.
"Now, it's our turn to support our national hero. This is not just about football but about humanity.
"Let us pray for his well-being and hope for his speedy recovery," it said.
Selangor Football Association (FAS) deputy president , Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said that Faisal was now more stable after his second surgery at a private hospital in Shah Alam yesterday evening.
"Faisal underwent a three-hour surgery to repair injuries caused by an acid attack recently. He is currently receiving follow-up treatment," he said.
