German giants Dortmund stand behind Faisal Halim

KUALA LUMPUR: Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are the latest football club to show their support for national player Faisal Halim who is recovering from a horrific acid attack.

The Bundesliga giants, in their official Facebook post, said they condemn violence in football.

"Faisal Halim is a winger who played for Selangor FC and Malaysia's national team. He scored the goal of the tournament in the recent Asian Cup against South Korea. His 13 goals and nine assists in the league last season propelled Selangor to second place and a place in the 2024/25 Asian competition.

"Faisal was attacked and was left in a critical condition in the intensive care unit. With this, we want to shed light on the violence in football. STOP the violence. We stand with Faisal Halim," said Borussia Dortmund in their statement.

The German club are the second European club to speak out in support of Faisal.

On May 11, Manchester United's Andre Onana and Alejandro Garnacho, in a display of solidarity, extended their heartfelt wishes to their fellow footballer in Malaysia in a 30-second video.

Faisal was splashed with acid by two assailants in a shopping centre in Damansara on May 5. The Selangor player suffered fourth-degree burns to several parts of his body, including his face.
