KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia failed to defend their Asean Under-19 football title following a 1-0 loss to Indonesia in the semi-final in Surabaya today (July 27).
The Malaysian team, coached by Spaniard Juan Torres Garrido, defended well but suffered a lapse in concentration in the 78th minute.
A goalmouth scramble saw Malaysia goalkeeper Haziq Aiman Esa making two saves, but was finally beaten by Alfharezzi Buffon.
Malaysia will play Australia for third place on Monday. The Young Socceroos were defeated 1-0 by Thailand in the semi-final.
