Tierney signs with Thai side Nakhon Pathom

KUALA LUMPUR: Thai League 1 side Nakhon Pathom United have announced the signing of 21-year-old Malaysian midfielder Fergus Tierney for the remainder of the 2024–2025 season.

The move comes shortly after news broke of Tierney's contract with Thai League 2 club Chonburi being terminated, allowing the transfer to be completed just before the mid-season transfer window closes on Jan 17.

Nakhon Pathom confirmed that Tierney has joined them on loan from Super League champions Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT).

"For this Malaysian-Scottish midfielder, he is a youth product of JDT, the 10-time Malaysia Super League champions. In the first half of the 2024–2025 season, he played for Chonburi, where he scored one goal before being released.

"He also represented Harimau Malaya in the Asean Cup," the club said in a statement.

Following the announcement on Sunday, Tierney took to his social media accounts to share the news.

"Can't wait to get started," he wrote in an Instagram Story post.

This transfer marks a significant step for Tierney as he looks to make an impact in Thailand's top-tier league.
