A podium show from Hakim Danish in Misano

KUALA LUMPUR: Hakim Danish Ramli made good on his promise of a podium finish after finishing third in Race 1 of the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup at the Misano Grand Prix in Italy, yesterday.

Starting the race 11th on the grid, the Malaysian had to overcome a bad start and make up a lot of ground on the leading pack.

Facing a widening gap to the front runners, the 17-year-old kept his composure and made his way up.

He was caught in an incident which would have ended his race, but Hakim Danish managed to stay upright to finish behind winner Brian Uriarte of Spain and second-placed Argentine Valentin Perrone.

"It was a tough race, I had to fight my way up the grid to get my podium finish.

"I had a bad start but I didn't give up and chase the leading group down. I passed riders to move up in the race.

"I tried to go for the win but almost crashed, I'm grateful that I managed to finish the race in third place," said Hakim Danish in a video by ZK Racing.

He targets a win in Race 2 today in a bid to end the season on a high.
