JAKARTA: Malaysia will start their Asian Games campaign in wushu in the men’s changquan event on Sunday.
Wong Weng Son and Yeap Wai Kin are Malaysia’s main hope with China being the favourite in the discipline.
Weng Son expects the environment to be similar to that of the 2017 Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur.
"In this short period, I have adapted well to the conditions here and am ready for the challenge," said Weng Son, when met at the athletes village here in Kemayoran.
To ensure he remains in optimal condition, the Negeri Sembilan-born exponent has been strictly following safety precautions, especially with the heat and haze in the city.
According to Weng Son, he has been wearing a face mask and keeping himself hydrated to make sure he doesn't feel under the weather come competition day.
"If it gets too hot, it will affect my performance. It's not easy to perform under challenging conditions," added Weng Son.
Weng Son, who will only compete in one discipline, believes his biggest challenge would come from China and Japan.
However, the jianshu world champion, believes he has a good chance of winning gold in changquan, after missing out on the top prize due to minor errors at the world meet last year.
"In March we trained in China, and then returned there for a short stint to prepare ourselves for the Asiad."
Meanwhile, Wai Kin admitted he is ready to face any challenge and will approach the tournament with a composed mind.
