Sivasangari ousts World No 12 Rowan in Manchester Open

KUALA LUMPUR: National No 2 S. Sivasangari extended her fine run after toppling Egyptian world No 12 Rowan Elaraby to reach the quarter-finals of the Manchester Open squash championships.

The 22-year-old Kedahan was in top form as she outgunned fifth seed Rowan 11-7, 11-7, 11-3 at the National Squash Centre in Manchester on Tuesday.

It is the second big scalp for Sivasangari following her win over world No 11 Tesni Evans of Wales at the El Gouna International in May.

The US-based Sivasangari now goes on to meet home favourite and World No 6 Sarah-Jane Perry in the last eight.

"I felt much better in today's game compared to the first round," said Sivasangari.

"Rowan is a rival from my junior days, but we haven't met in a while and she has been playing well recently too.

"But I just went in positively and stayed as focused as I could on my own game."
