KUALA LUMPUR: Hammer throwers Jackie Wong and Grace Wong did not meet expectations at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham on Saturday.
In his third Games appearance, Jackie finished 14th in the men's final with a throw of 61.40m at the Alexander Stadium.
His attempt was more than seven metres short of his national record of 68.22m, set in 2019.
In the 2018 Gold Coast edition, he recorded 64.35 ---- three metres better than his Birmingham effort.
At the Hanoi Sea Games in May, he won gold with 66.49.
Nick Miller of England retained the gold with a throw of 76.43 while Ethan Katzberg of Canada did a personal best of 76.36 to settle for silver.
Alexandros Poursanidis of Cyprus took bronze (73.97).
Grace, meanwhile, also had a disappointing outing with a 61.30 throw to finish 10th in the women's hammer.
Her effort was way off her national record of 62.48, she set at the Malaysian Grand Prix in Bukit Jalil last year.
Camryn Rogers of Canada won the gold in 74.08. Julia Ratcliffe of New Zealand (69.63m) settled for silver while Jilian Weir of Canada (67.35m) took the bronze.
Andre Anura Anwar will compete in the men's triple jump later today.
