Yasshmita bags her second squash title in Australia

KUALA LUMPUR: Youngster J. Yasshmita is on fire after winning back-to-back PSA titles in Australia. The Negri Sembilan player, who won the Shepparton title in Victoria on July 9, bagged the Victoria Open today.

The second seed defeated South Korea's joint ninth seed Hoe Ming Yeong 11-7, 11-9, 5-11, 5-11, 11-9 in the final.

In the semi-finals, Yasshmita beat Hong Kong's sixth seed Wai Sze Wing 11-7, 11-8, 5-11, 10-12, 11-9 while Ming Yeong downed Japan's eighth seed Risa Sugimoto 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8. Yasshmita, who received a first round bye, beat Australia's Erin Classen 12-10, 11-9, 8-11, 13-11 in the second round and M. Remashree 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 in the last eight.

World No. 94 Yasshmita, who trains in London under coach Jon Tate, said: "Winning back-to-back titles is a big boost for my squash career."

Meanwhile, the Bristol-based C. Ameeshenraj beat Duncan Lee 11-3, 11-7, 7-11, 11-3 in the WSF Satellite No. 6 final at the Astaka Courts in Petaling Jaya today. Kedah's Wong Heng Wai won the women's title by beating Goh Zhi Xuan 11-5, 11-4, 11-4.
