Asian Games: China win a record 201 gold medals, top medal tally

KUALA LUMPUR: China secured a record-breaking 201 gold medals in the Hangzhou Asian Games, which concluded today, surpassing their previous total of 199 gold achieved at the 2010 Guangzhou Games.

This marks the 11th time that China, who also claimed 111 silver and 71 bronze medals, have topped the overall medal tally at the Asian Games.

In distant second are Japan with 52 gold, 67 silver and 69 bronze, followed by South Korea with a haul of 42-59-89.

Emerging giants, India, exceeded their 100-medal target by winning 28 gold, 38 silver, and 41 bronze for a total of 107 medals, securing a fourth-place finish.

Uzbekistan finished fifth with a 22-18-31 haul.

Thailand emerged as the best-placed Southeast Asian country, finishing eighth with 12 gold, 14 silver, and 32 bronze, followed by Indonesia (13th — 7-11-18) and Malaysia (14th — 6-8-18).
