Double delight as Joachim, Sehveetrraa win in Hong Kong

KUALA LUMPUR: Joachim Chuah and K. Sehveetrraa made it a sweet double for Malaysia when they clinched the men's and women's titles respectively at the Hong Kong PSA Challenger Cup Fourth Leg today.

Unseeded Joachim upset the form book when he defeated Hong Kong's seventh seed, Harley Lam, in the men's final.

In the semi-finals, the world No. 275 Malaysia defeated fifth seed Andes Ling of Hong Kong 11-8, 11-3, 11-8.

Joachim, 19, said he never expected to be crowned champion.

"I was more focused on my game than the results, and it paid dividends. It is my first victory in a big event," said Joachim, who will next play at the WA Open in Perth.

Meanwhile, third seed Sehveetrraa upset top seed Ching Hei Fung of Hong Kong 11-7, 11-4, 11-3 in the women's final.

In the semi-finals, Sehveetrraa defeated Hong Kong's Kwong Ena 13-11, 11-9, 11-9.

The 18-year-old was delighted to win her second Challenger title after the Bondy Open in Perth last year.

"It is a boost ahead of the Sea Cup, which begins next week in Manila," said Sehveetrraa, who was part of the Malaysian team that won a silver medal at the World Junior Championships in Melbourne last year.
