KUALA LUMPUR: As Day 12 of the Paris Olympics unfolds, no Malaysian athletes will be in action today.
There are only seven more Malaysian athletes remaining in Paris; from track cycling, diving, golf, to weightlifting.
They will begin their hunt for the elusive gold medal tomorrow with former keirin world champion Azizulhasni Awang leading the way.
Yesterday, the national contingent secured their second bronze medal in Paris after Lee Zii Jia beat India's Lakshya Sen 13-21, 21-16, 21-11 in the men's singles bronze medal match.
Today's schedule will feature 17 gold medal-events in athletics, boxing, track cycling, diving, equestrian, skateboarding, sailing and wrestling.
Day 11 of the Olympics yesterday saw Denmark's Viktor Axelsen retain his badminton men's singles title in front of his country's monarch in Paris to emulate Chinese great Lin Dan, who won in 2008 and 2012.
Sweden's pole vaulter Armand Duplantis improved his own world record to retain his Olympic title as he sailed over the 6.25-metre mark.
In football, Spain and hosts France will square off for gold on Friday after some late dramatics in the semi-finals. Spain came back to edge Morocco 2-1, while France beat Egypt 3-1 after extra time.
As of now, the United States lead the medal standings with 21 gold, 30 silver, and 28 bronze. China follow closely with 21 gold, 18 silver and 14 bronze while host nation France are third with 13 gold, 16 silver and 19 bronze.
