Chen Jie shoots down first Sukma record in Kuching

KUCHING: Gan Chen Jie became the first athlete at the Sarawak Malaysia Games to set a new record, winning the women's 50m rifle three positions in Kuching today.

The 20-year-old Negri Sembilan representative scored 574 points, surpassing the previous mark of 569 set by Perak's Nurul Syafani Nabilah at the 2022 KL edition, at the Sarawak Shooting Range.

Chen Jie attributed her success to hard work and dedication in training.

"I've gained a deeper understanding of shooting techniques, thanks to my coach. I also put in extra hours to perfect my performance. I'm pleased that my efforts paid off today," she said.

Penang's Nur Sumayyah Dzulkifli claimed silver with 563 points, while Terengganu's Nur Hanisah Adibah Zakaria took bronze with 561.

"All the other competitors were strong. I often compete against them in local competitions," said Chen Jie, who has also trained under former national shooter Nur Suryani Taibi.

Chen Jie also helped Negri Sembilan secure gold in the team event, pairing with Aina Zahara Baharum and Tan Yee Xuan to score 1,680 points.
