PUTRAJAYA: A boot camp in Indonesia led to Brazilian side, RRQ Akira, notching a win in their opening match of the M6 World Championship's wild card stage on Thursday.
The full Brazilian roster registered a 2-0 sweep of highly rated MongolZ from Mongolia to tie Russia's Insilio at the top of Group B with two points each.
Insilion had earlier defeated Vietnam's Legion Esports 2-0.
Brazilian coach, Godman Cabral, said that Indonesia was chosen as their training base as it is the home of their parent organisation, RRQ.
"It is easy for us logistically to go to Indonesia, and RRQ takes care of the hospitality as well.
"We also have good support, especially to record content in our free time and everyone in the team loves Indonesia.
"However, this time, we did not spend as much time as in previous years in the country as we only had 10 days of training and spent 15 days overall.
"The jet lag from travelling from Brazil was difficult to overcome. I would love to have spent more time there," said the 28-year-old.
RRQ Akira are considered as one of the favourites to get out of the wilcard stage, but they see a few teams as their main challengers.
"We consider ourselves the favourites but I believe the teams from Turkiye and Russia are our biggest threats," Cabral added.
