KUALA LUMPUR: Selangor Red Giants (SRG) find themselves in a do-or-die situation going into the fourth round of the Swiss stage at the ongoing Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) M6 World Championship.
SRG cannot afford to lose to China's KeepBest Gaming (KBG) at the IOI Grand Exhibition and Convention Centre tomorrow (Dec 4) if they want to keep their hopes of achieving the Golden Road alive.
Achieving a Golden Road means a team has won all major events within a calendar year.
SRG's sports psychologist, Philip Lew, said the team is used to high pressure situations and have been able to overcome them and emerge victorious in the past.
"I keep reminding the team that we have been in this position before. At the Season 14 playoffs last month we were defeated by Todak and found ourselves needing to bounce back.
"At the Mid Season Cup (MSC) we were tied 2-2 against Fire Flux in the quarter-finals. Even in the MSC grand final it was tied 3-3 and the winner of the US$1 million (RM4.5 million) prize money was going to be decided in the final game.
"We managed to deal with the pressure every time and win," said the former National Sports Institute sports psychology officer.
Philip added that these past situations provided the team with learning opportunities which they can implement against KBG tomorrow.
"I always emphasis the 'what is important now?' or WIIN mentality," added Philip.
"It is not about just winning but about doing what is important now to achieve a positive result."
Philip has also worked with national shuttlers under the Road to Gold (RTG) programme.
