KUALA LUMPUR: Oil slicks stained coastlines at four locations at Singapore after a damaged cargo tank leaked oil into the sea at Pasir Panjang Terminal, yesterday.
The affected places are East Coast Park, Labrador Nature Reserve, Keppel Bay, Southern Islands and Sentosa.
In a report today, the Straits Times said it received videos showing thick, black oil in the waters of Tanjong Beach and East Coast Park, discolouring the sand at the shoreline.
The report quoted Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) saying they were alerted to the presence of oil in the waters around Palawan Beach around 9pm on June 14.
Yesterday, Bernama reported that an oil spill clean-up is underway at Singapore's Pasir Panjang Terminal.
The spill was followed by a collision between a dredging ship from the Netherlands, Vox Maxima, and a stationary Singaporean fuel supply ship, Marine Honour.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) said the agency, port operator PSA and the bunker vessel company have activated oil spill response craft to the location after oil from the damaged cargo tank on Marine Honourspilled into the water following the incident at 2.20pm on Friday (June 14).
"Both vessels are currently anchored safely, are in stable condition, with some damage above the waterline. There is no injury reported.
"The affected cargo tank has been isolated and the spill contained," the agency said in a statement.
The MPA said the incident has no impact on navigational safety and berthing operations at the PSA remain unaffected.
