KOTA BARU: An ex-convict, released from prison just a month ago, was found with a smoke grenade and three bullets in his possession.
More worryingly, he also had a ‘James Bond-style’ gun which resembled a pen.
The man, in his 30s, was arrested at his home in Jalan Kuala Krai on Monday morning following a tip-off from the public.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Dr Ab Rahman Ismail said the man had refused to open the door when a police raiding party went to the house. The team had to break down the door to gain entry.
“The man was arrested following a brief scuffle,” he told a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters.
It was learnt that he was previously imprisoned for a firearms-related charge.
Rahman said the man tested positive for methampetamine. Checks also showed that he had a record of previous convictions; three drug-related as well as one firearm, gambling and extortion case each.
"Preliminary investigations suggest that the gun was given to him by a friend for testing. We are now looking for the friend, who is from Simpangan in Tumpat," he said.
Rahman said the man has been remanded for four days from yesterday.
