Elmina plane crash: Pilot's last words to mum, 'I love you so much mama'

KLANG: "I (Adik) love you so much mama" were Captain Shahrul's last words to his mother before meeting with his tragic demise in the Elmina plane crash near the Guthrie Highway earlier today.

Mahanom Ismail, 67, recalled her final conversation with her youngest son, the late Captain Shahrul Kamal Roslan, 41, who piloted the ill-fated aircraft.

She appeared grief-stricken and was holding back tears when met by reporters in the compound of the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) Forensic Department.

She shared that Shahrul had contacted her for the last time before undergoing surgery at the Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital in Kuala Lumpur on June 24.

"A day before his intestine and gallbladder surgery, he contacted me to ask how I was. Before ending the call, he said 'I (Adik) love you so much, mama'," she said.

According to her, Shahrul, the youngest of the two siblings, was very close and affectionate with her.

"The late Shahrul was close and affectionate with me. Whenever he returned home... even from a distance, he'd call out 'mama.. mama, open the door'... I will miss everything about him, his voice calling out to me," she said, choking back tears.

Sharing about her son's career, Mahanom mentioned that before flying private jets, he had worked with Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Etihad Airways.

She added that the family will discuss funeral arrangements with her son's in-laws.

"I will discuss it with his in-laws, whether the burial will take place in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur or Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam," she said.

She also mentioned that Shahrul left behind a widow and four sons aged between 12 and three years old.
