RESIDENTS of Pandan Jaya are irked by the stinking smell from clogged drains near their homes.
Unable to bear the stench any longer, they urge Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) to look into the problem.
Residents and business operators claimed that the problem had worsened in the last three months.
Resident Liew Soon Seng said the problem would worsen every time it rained.
“I fear the unhygienic condition can lead to an outbreak of diseases.
“Those who pass by the drains have to bear with the stench.”
Senior citizen Happy Tan said she hoped the council would act immediately.
“The clogged drains should be cleared as soon as possible.
“We are afraid the drains might overflow if nothing is done,” said the 62-year-old.

Pandan MCA divisional chief Datuk Leong Kok Wee said he would follow up with MPAJ to solve the problem.
He was disappointed that the problem had persisted for months.
“It shows that the local council is not serious about helping the residents,” he said.
Leong said MPAJ must explain how it used the annual allocation of RM60 million given by the state government for solid waste management.
He added that the local council spent RM5 million a month for domestic waste collection and general cleaning.
