TANJUNG MALIM: With the launch of Perodua supplier Industrial Quality Management Sdn Bhd (IQM) facility's new machine here today, owners of Kancil, Kelisa, older Myvi and Viva can now breathe easy as parts for the models will continue to be manufactured.
IQM has been producing parts for Perodua models since 2002. Perodua's installion of the RM7 million machine in the facility also comes with relevant skill transfer and training for IQM's workforce.
Perodua's main objective in centralising production of parts for its popular older models is aimed to offer owners quality, speed and affordable parts.
"Perodua's decision to centralise past model parts production at IQM is four-pronged. One, we want to continue supporting owners of our past models with quality, quick and affordable parts through our Body & Paint business, because as long as you own a Perodua vehicle - old or new - we will always be there for you," said Perodua president and chief executive officer Datuk Zainal Abidin Ahmad.
"Two, we are committed to empowering all 135 of our Malaysian suppliers, not just by buying from them but helping to develop them via skill and technology transfers.
"Three, it represents our commitment to the nation and its economy by helping to boost the competitiveness of the Malaysian automotive eco-system.
"Finally, it represents our commitment to ourselves. To keep improving our quality and efficiency so that Perodua can be a better and leaner company moving forward," he said.
The new 1,600 metric-tonne hydraulic press stamping machine is set to produce parts including bonnets, side outer panels, rear quarter panels, fenders, doors and roofs of past models. The dies required to make these parts have also been moved to IQM by Perodua.
This effectively frees up space in Perodua's plants, at the same time reduces lead time and cost as well as ease monitoring of past model parts production.
Since 1994, Perodua has sold over 3.7 million units in Malaysia and currently, a third of the demand for Perodua parts was for past models.
Zainal also noted that the carmaker also has on standby parts for models like Rusa and Kenari.
