KUALA LUMPUR: Buying makeup online can be quite a gamble especially when exploring a new hue and finish, be it matte, metallic, satin or glossy.
In a quest to solve consumers’ problems and improve their lipstick and lip gloss shopping online experience, beauty brand L’Oréal has teamed up with Shopee to roll out an augmented reality (AR)-powered tool on the latter's e-commerce platform.
Called the Shopee BeautyCam by ModiFace, shoppers are able to digitally try on different shades of L’Oréal, Maybelline and NYX lipsticks.
To access this tool, users will need to visit the L’Oréal Paris Malaysia, Maybelline and NYX official stores on the Shopee app, pick the lipstick of their choice and try the shade via the front-facing camera on their mobile device.
The proprietary technology will first start with L’Oréal lipsticks and eventually be extended across other L’Oréal make-up products in the future across Southeast Asia.
The AR-powered tool not only provides personalised online shopping experience but will also benefit millions of Shopee users, especially digitally-savvy millennials who are drawn to innovation, creativity and a sense of self-discovery.

Meanwhile, L’Oréal Malaysia Consumer Products Division general manager Lau Sook Ping says the technological innovation gives consumers the freedom and creativity to explore L’Oréal’s wide array of lipsticks and helps users learn more about what lipstick suits them best.
The official launch of Shopee BeautyCam is also in conjunction with International Lipstick Day in July, and to celebrate it, a L’Oréal Super Brand Day (SBD) will be taking place on July 29.
The SBD will feature attractive deals of up to 50 per cent on lipsticks from all brands and users will also get a chance to win vouchers and Shopee Coins when they play Shopee’s Spin and Win.
