#BEAUTY: Empowering women through beauty education and training

NOW in its eighth year, Fondation L'Oréal's Beauty For A Better Life (BFBL) programme, in partnership with WOMEN:girls, continues to empower Malaysian women from underprivileged backgrounds.

The 2024 programme welcomed 53 new participants, who received training in two key beauty fields - professional hairdressing and make-up artistry.

The BFBL programme in Malaysia has successfully nurtured 249 graduates to date, with a 90 per cent employment rate achieved within three months of graduation.

Beauty For A Better Life represents a long-term mission at L'Oréal Malaysia to help individuals make meaningful breakthroughs in their lives, says L'Oréal Malaysia managing director Tomas Hruska.

Many participants have not only developed professional skills but have also grown in confidence says WOMEN:girls executive director Izza Izelan.

"At WOMEN:girls, we believe in education's power to create lasting societal

change, and BFBL exemplifies this commitment."

The programme focuses on empowering women facing vulnerable situations, many from lower-income groups, by offering skill-building and interpersonal development that equips them to pursue successful careers as make-up artists.

This year's graduates include Vinmalar Rabil, a 20-year-old unemployed SPM school leaver who has always loved make-up but faced financial constraints in pursuing formal training in the field. Cheong Yi Wen, meanwhile, discovered her creative side through the programme and plans to expand her skills in special effects make-up.

Nursyasya Afina Suhaimi, following her own transformative experience in the programme as a 2022 BFBL hairdressing graduate, has returned as an educator for other aspiring girls.

Nursyasya now owns two hair salons in Malacca and recently launched her own training academy.
