Singer Tan wants to focus on acting

DESPITE having just launched her single Darling, singer-actress Elizabeth Tan admitted that she is no longer interested in singing, especially in performing live.

Instead, Tan, 23, who recently acted in the drama My Darling Inspektor Daniel, said she wanted to focus more on acting.

“Filming the drama series was fun. I’ve also learned a lot from the director and the other cast members,” shared Tan when met recently.

She also admitted that it had been her childhood dream to become an actress.

“Singing just happened when I used to upload the videos of myself doing covers during my student days,” she said.

Next thing she knew, she was offered a recording deal and released her debut single Knock Knock in 2014.

The catchy single even earned her a place as a finalist at the 30th Anugerah Juara Lagu music awards event early last year.

“I was excited for a while, but soon realised that it was not where my heart is,” she said.

Tan, who regards popular singer-songwriter Faizal Tahir as her mentor, added that it was he who had suggested that she take a break from singing to explore other avenues of her creativity and talent in the entertainment industry.

“So, that’s why I haven’t been singing for about five months. Since then, I’ve started focusing on acting.

“It’s been a wonderful journey. So far, I’ve received a few acting offers but I have yet to decide on which one that I’ll be taking on as my next project,” said Tan, whose single Darling was also the soundtrack for My Darling Inspektor Daniel.

Tan added that she would continue writing, composing and recording songs in the studio.

“I just don’t really like performing live. But I’ll still be coming up with my own songs from time to time. It’s just that I won’t be as active as I was on that front any more.” By Tahir Alhamzah
